geostatistical zoning of soil temperature in maize root-zone under different irrigation strategies

چکیده
soil temperature is one of the most effective parameters for plant growth. although the spatiotemporal monitoring of soil temperature is important for providing an optimum condition to maximize the yield efficiency, indirect measurements for zoning of soil temperature are essential due to difficulties in direct methods of measuring it and also the limited measurement points. thus, the efficiency of some geostatistical methods including weighted moving average, kriging, and co-kriging with soil water content and electrical conductivity, as covariates, were investigated for estimating the soil temperature under three irrigation treatments: (fi) full irrigation, (prd75) partial root zone drying at 75%, and ( prd55) at 55% levels. tdr sensors were used to measure soil temperature, water content, and electrical conductivity. comparing the observed and estimated soil temperature by geostatistical methods based on root mean square error (rmse), mean absolute error (mae), mean bias error (mbe), and index of agreement (d) indices confirmed the validity of the selected methods for zoning of soil temperature in the plant root zone under all treatments. duncan variance analysis showed that the values of evaluation indices for kriging method were significantly lower than that for all other geostatistical methods under all treatments (p<0.05). results confirmed that using soil water content as covariate in co-kriging method significantly decreased the range of influence in all treatments and, also, using the soil electrical conductivity as covariate in co-kriging method caused a discontinuity of the cross-variogram. thus, it could be concluded that even under the especial soil water content condition in partial root-zone drying strategy, kriging method significantly decreases the estimation error of soil temperature compared with co-kriging method with soil water content as covariate.

Responses of root growth and distribution of maize to nitrogen application patterns under partial root-zone irrigation
A field experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of varying nitrogen (N) supply andirrigation methods on the root growth and distribution of maize (Zea mays L.) in Wuwei, northwest China in 2011 and 2012. The irrigation treatments included alternate furrow irrigation(AI), fixed furrow irrigation (FI) and conventional furrow irrigation (CI). The N supply treatmentsincluded alternate ...
متن کاملYield and nitrogen leaching in maize field under different nitrogen rates and partial root drying irrigation
Irrigation water is limiting for crop production in arid and semi-arid areas. Furthermore, excess nitrogen (N) application is a source of groundwater contamination. Partial root drying irrigation (PRD) can be used as water saving technique and a controlling measure of groundwater N contamination. The objectives of this investigation were to evaluate the effect of ordinary furrow irrigation (OFI...
متن کاملEffects of partial root-zone irrigation on hydraulic conductivity in the soil–root system of maize plants
Effects of partial root-zone irrigation (PRI) on the hydraulic conductivity in the soil-root system (L(sr)) in different root zones were investigated using a pot experiment. Maize plants were raised in split-root containers and irrigated on both halves of the container (conventional irrigation, CI), on one side only (fixed PRI, FPRI), or alternately on one of two sides (alternate PRI, APRI). Re...
متن کاملEffect of Irrigation Timing on Root Zone Soil Temperature, Root Growth and Grain Yield and Chemical Composition in Corn
High air temperatures during the crop growing season can reduce harvestable yields in major agronomic crops worldwide. Repeated and prolonged high night air temperature stress may compromise plant growth and yield. Crop varieties with improved heat tolerance traits as well as crop management strategies at the farm scale are thus needed for climate change mitigation. Crop yield is especially sen...

plant performance and freshness is related to the pattern of its root growth development, which is highly affected by the water amount and water use management. therefore, the spatiotemporal variation of maize root under five treatments including full irrigation treatment (fi), partial root-zone drying treatments at two levels (receiving 75% of et =prd75, and 55% of et= prd55) and deficit irrig...
